Genetically Modified Food Supply Essays - 1107 Words
The failure of an arithmetically proliferating food supply to meet the demands of an exponentially propagating population has led many scientists and civilians to believe that a genetically modified food supply would be more than ideal. While genetically modified foods have proven to yield more food under cheaper costs, it has also yielded many problems. Concerned researchers believe that a ââ¬Å"Pandoraââ¬â¢s lunchboxâ⬠has been opened at the dawn of genetic modification technology. (PBS, par 33) Since genetically modified foods are foreign substances to the consumerââ¬â¢s body, the physical response to such foods are generally negative. Moreover, the temptation of an increased profit from a cheap rate of production for genetically modified foods hasâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦(Newton, par 68) This triggered unheralded allergic reactions, endangering the lives of many uninformed soy bean consumers who had severe nut allergies. What is even more terrifying is that gen etically modified foods can cause more than allergy conflicts; they can impair body systems, induce cancer and ultimately, cause death. Many vegetables such as potatoes which are genetically modified have natural toxins which are produced upon trigger. Generally, the toxin levels are not sufficient to cause harm to humans who consume them but when such plants are genetically modified, the inserted genes could act as toxin inducers or triggers and poison consumers. The severe consequences of this would be paralysis, permanent damage and sometimes, death. (Newton, par 73) The countless various genes inserted in foods in genetic modification of foods put consumersââ¬â¢ health at risk and the consequences, unclear as well. Not only do these monstrous mutations in food affect people, but it also affects the environment. Many livestock have been abused and mistreated in the creation of these monstrous foods. In the cattle breeding industry, scientists are constantly experiment to acqui re the perfect breed of transgenic cattle. Technology And Law Enforcement And Against Terrorism
Use of Technology in Law Enforcement and Against Terrorism Technology has a definite impact not only on our everyday lives but also on the ideologies we pursue or abandon. This change can be clearly seen as society has progressed through from an agrarian culture through the growing pains of the industrial revolution, and into the current wave, the information wave. The role of technology was seen as a tool in the agrarian culture and also as a means for physical exploration of humanity s surroundings. During the industrial revolution that tool, used to better the agrarian age morphed into a guiding force for social change, intellectual idealism, and scientific exploration. This is in direct contrast to the publishing world where it requires a specialized knowledge and education to produce some thing or to become published. Often the knowledge needs to be combined with a fair amount of luck as well. Technology has also become a way to put social power into the hands of the few as well. The existence of surveillance systems, the exorbitant prices of medical matters, and the existence of issues such as the digital divide are all examples of technologically based ways to shift a balance of power in an arena. As technology is always in a state of flux so are our society s attitudes regarding technology. There is a definite polarization of issues in the field of law enforcement. Technology has always been seen as an asset in providing irrefutable proof that the person charged with the crime was the one who committed said crime. Technology has also been seen as an invasion of privacy as law enforcement officials gather data. Part of this change from the perception that technology will play an expanded role in a noble cause, to the invasion of privacy that police may commit, in their zeal to gather information, can be traced to a shift in attitude toward law enforcement in general. The position that law enforcement officials hold
A Successful Teacher Free Essays
Teaching is a special calling. It is not a job well ââ¬â suited to everyone. Teaching is still more of an art than a science. We will write a custom essay sample on A Successful Teacher or any similar topic only for you Order Now So teachers should be artists in this domain. Teaching should provide an opportunity for students to develop a strong sense of creativity, a high self-esteem a life- long respect for learning. A teacher will be one factor that helps a student learn and progress along their way through life. Many individuals believe that being a teacher is an easy task. Our society believes that any person can become a teacher, but experience has shown that not everyone is capable of being a teacher. There are many personality traits that are required to be an effective teacher. ââ¬Å"How to be a successful teacher? â⬠It is an important question that we can answer by infinite words and endless sentences. However, here are some top keys for being a successful and ideal teacher. Every teacher can benefit from focusing on these important qualities. Success in teaching, as in most areas of life depends almost entirely on your attitude and on your approach. 1- Sense of Humor : A sense of humor can help you become a successful teacher. Your sense of humor can relieve tense classroom situations before they become disruptions. A sense of humor will also make the class more enjoyable for your students and possibly make students look forward to attending and paying attention Most importantly, a sense of humor will allow you to see the joy in life and make you a happier person as you progress through this sometimes stressful career. 2- A positive Attitude A positive attitude is a great asset in life. You will be thrown many curve balls in life and especially in the teaching profession. A positive attitude will help you cope with these in the best way. Your composure will ease your possible anger and will decrease the pressure that you may face. For example, you may find out the first day of school that you are teaching English 2 instead of English 1. This would not be an ideal situation, but a teacher with the right attitude would try to focus on getting through the first day without negatively impacting the students. 3- High Expectations : An effective teacher must have high expectations; you should strive to raise the bar for your students. If you expect less effort, you will receive less effort. You should work on an attitude that says that you know students can achieve to your level of expectations, thereby giving them a sense of confidence too. This is not to say that you should create unrealistic expectations. However, your expectations will be one of the key factors in helping learn and achieve. 4-Consistency: In order to create a positive learning environment, your students should know what to expect from you every day. You need to be consistent, this will create a safe learning environment for the students and they will be more likely to succeed. It is amazing that students can adapt to teachers throughout the day that range from strict to easy. However, they will dislike an environment in which the rules are constantly changing. 5. Fairness: Many people confuse fairness and consistency. A consistent teacher is the same person from day to day. A fair teacher treats students equally in the same situation. For example, students complain of unfairness when teachers treat one gender or group of students differently. Students pick up this so quickly, so be careful of being labeled unfair. . Flexibility: One of the tenets of teaching should be that everything is in a constant state of change. Interruptions and disruptions are the norm and very few days are typical. Therefore, a flexible attitude is important not only for your stress level, but also for your students who expect you to be in charge and take control of any situation. Finally, there are some points that every teacher should pay attention to in order to be an ideal teac her : 1- Never lose your temper, be self-contain. ââ¬â Do not let your students know your self-points. 3- Do not break the rules and the regulations. 4- Be patient. 5- Be unpredictable, do not be a stereo type teacher. 6- Variety and speedâ⬠¦. â⬠Variety is the spice of lifeâ⬠. 7- Love your students and treat them kindly. 8- Be punctual in appointments. 9- Be tolerant. 10- Pay attention to the differences that may be found among the students. Discuss Apollo 13 a space drama Essay Example For Students
Discuss Apollo 13 a space drama Essay Apollo 13 a space drama, Directed and produced by Ron Howard and was made in. It was made to look as realistic as possible without it being a documentary; no original footage from the launch was used, apart from a few embedded images like in the news on TV. Howard used many different techniques to achieve realism: weightlessness, camera angles, special effects and historic words phases and speeches, but before he even started filming he had a good idea of the astronauts backgrounds, the flight plan and the exact events that happened on the mission. He spent a long time with the astronaut Jim Lovel researching the events. One technique used was weightlessness, in many of the scenes Howard needed to have the feel of weightlessness and he was lucky that NASA let him use their aeroplane KC135. This is a normal plane but not like a passenger aircraft, it has no seats and the insides are built to look like that of a shuttle. This plane was taken to huge altitudes and dropped to give the feeling of weightlessness; real astronauts used this in their training. Howard had to get 3 men and a camera crew onto the plane, and film good quality realistic scenes. I feel that this is a major part in the making of he film and the film couldnt be made well without it. The launch was a very realistic part of the film and Howard put a lot or work into it. With the combination of special effects and different camera angles, the shuttle and the surrounding look incredibly real. He starts off with a low angle shit of the shuttle and pans all the way to the top, the special effects come in when it ignites, and the flames from the bottom of the shuttle. As the shuttle starts to shake, the camera moves to a crane shot right on the tip of the shuttle and as the rocket breaks away from the the camera spirals down the shuttle just missing the broken parts, this seems very realistic and the dizziness of the spiraling could be recreating what the astronauts are feeling. Howard doesnt always use real-time like in the final scene on the countdown to when the shuttle should renter the atmosphere. There is a 4-minute countdown and the first 4 minutes are actually 2, but the last minute is in real-time. I think this is a good idea as at this moment-the climate of the film, the audience are waiting for whats going to happen, there is a lot of tension, and leaving this tension for a whole 4 minutes, it would slowly drift away and the audience would lose interest. Throughout the film there is the idea of heroism and patriotism, this is shown at the launch where there is a long shot of about 80 people sitting on a small stadium. There is a highflying American flag above them and the music of dead American military heroes playing. For a lot of American people watching that were around at the time of the original launch, this could be like it was all happening again. The camera then switches to a close-up of the two wives, and their different feelings, one is crying for joy and the other is looking up at the shuttle in amazement. This scene seem very realistic as you could imagine this happening at the real launch.

Learning Experiences Up Until Strategies â⬠Myassignmenthelp.Com
Question: Discuss About The Learning Experiences Up Until Strategies? Answer: Introducation This paper is required to be an impression of my learning experiences up until this point, and there is most likely the course has left a significant impression on my essential cognizance of human capital as an indispensable advantage for an affiliation. We had clear yearnings from the class, and it was all properly placed out in the syllabus. As prospective managers, we learnt how to modify HR to business systems, understand influence of outside and inside conditions, arrange HR structures to propel positive practices amongst laborers, develop staffing and pay schemes to draw, hold and awaken best agents, appreciate specialist relations, manage transformation in the midst of troublesome conditions and utilize these key HR aptitudes that expansion the estimation of corporate essential leadership (Hendry 2012). The recommended course perusing was extraordinarily reasonable and elucidated the essentialness and utilization of HR practices as they stay in this present reality. As opposed to remaining into the theories and thoughts with no snippet of data about their normal presentation, the book illuminated the examining objectives of each part, their fundamental significance, strategies, finest practices, distinctive viewpoints, rising examples and trials in an overall area (Bratton and Gold 2012). The use of certifiable cases nearby the logical examinations close the learning circle. The teacher was extraordinarily adapted, significantly fiery and animating. He was to a great degree open and comprehension at whatever point you approach him with any request or concerns. The taking in perspectives was fascinating from a customary setting in that the understudies accepted the total risk to learn by sharing their distinct experiences, data, and aptitudes under the ace bearing of the Professor. I sensed that this method left basic experiences for each of us. The class situation supported and propelled an air where considerations, thoughts, responses, were uninhibitedl y traded provoking pined for results. The Socratic style of indicating assisted us to fundamentally consider the focuses, partake in gathering coherency and supported shared learning. The legitimate practice cases made us fathom the all-encompassing sharpens in numerous affiliations, HR conditions, issues and concerns as they rise. The case or "Story" demonstration made us consider fundamentally, examine choices and tackle conditions with precise courses of action. In any case, as we came, every session wound up being stimulating, abundant with individual's experiences and fundamental contemplations about the themes inspected. What I sensed staggering about the class were the enduring information and evaluation rehearses we had and the ace help by the educator (Storey 2014). Each point that I learnt could be associated to my work place and appeared to mix in with my legitimate culture. Human resource management has been shifting consistently, and new examples are creating exhibiting the indispensable centrality of HR (Human Capital) to push competitive advantage. The parts and components of the HR Triad Line Managers, HR Resource and Employees are fundamental to any definitive accomplishment. The way to picking the appropriate laborer; execution management and appraisal; comparative significance of authenticity, limit and position while propelling agents; work examination and its regard; work laws under the EEO, Affirmative action, supervising diversity, capacity management and support; specialist inspiration, obligation and devotion; good and great concerns; respectability and decency; division and diversity are of most outrageous hugeness to any person who is administering laborers (Purce 2014). I even had the chance to deliberate my business related concerns with the instructor to get his lord advice and search for answers for the issues I am standing up to at my workplace. I was genuinely content with the discourse I had and envisioning putting decisively the beneficial recommendations made by the instructor. My workplace involvements dealt with a vast part of the concerns an individual would face in different affiliations. All around, the course was astoundingly illuminating, granted essential thinking and developed the aptitudes required to administer people compellingly. One included advantage was the arrangement of techniques to set up workplaces that are capable, effective and meet the various leveled destinations. Every Organization ought to totally utilize the fascinating and individual qualities and qualities that individual authorities offer (Daley 2012). Reflective Journal Immediately when I learnt about the selection and assurance work, I understood I value finding of this. It was more so because the fact of the matter was a social affair presentation. In this subject, as what I know the enrollment limit is to perceive, attract, and utilize the most qualified people. In another word, this endeavor has ended up being extremely trying in light of the way that there is creating competition for capacity in work publicize. The selection has an E-Recruitment structure. E-Recruitment system suggests online occupation application and gets a ready structure for supervisors to promote their work opportunity and for a contender to exhibit their application by methods for the web (Doornenbal, Stitselaar and Jansen 2012). This time I take on this subject, I take in more detail to use the plan of that association especially in the Job Street structure, I get some answers concerning the each of the section and subcomponent in it. Enlistment goals consolidate cost filling a business opportunity, the speed of filling an occupation association, specialist satisfaction, nature of competitors and other. I pick up this point more from the print screen of Job Street structure. This is because I can't assess the structure in light of the way that the system has a claim mystery key. So I get some answers concerning it implying the print screen. The impact of online selection on enlistment objectives is: Cost of filling the work opportunity Speed of filling occupation openings Employee satisfaction, degrees of consistency. Quality, sum, and contrasting characteristics of hopefuls (Shackleton 2015) As I can get about the topic is I know the affiliations have always used social associations and frameworks organization, including specialist referrals, to attract capacity. Logically, casual correspondence areas, for instance, Facebook, Myspace, and LinkedIn are grabbing being utilized, and pervasiveness and now give a unique system for allowing selection specialists. Other than that, what I get some answers concerning assurance and development, the portion focuses on evaluations of individual specialists and contenders, which are at the heart of the appraisal strategy that engages relationship in managing their capacity. This is by the decision give data that are usual to settling on progressive decisions (Nikolaou 2014). I discover the vast majority of the material I run over on work-life adjust superfluously. We require work, and we require rest: yes, even God gave it a lay on the seventh day. As much as I have my issues with such religious references, I do see the brilliant advantages of watching a day of rest and reflection. Rest and reflection, not work-life adjust, which is an innovation of the very workplaces that deliver burnout. The hidden ramifications of 'work-life adjust' is that we can be slaves to work, then at last closed down and rest. An expression that rings a bell is panem et circenses: we gain our everyday bread issues, we go to an anxiety administration course, we go to the exercise center, rehearse yoga, contemplate, and the cycle begins once more (Goodman 2012). Laying on the weekend, getting to the exercise center on a Tuesday night, or having a drink with companions on a Thursday night may temporarily enhance our mind-set, then what? On the off chance that our workplace is dangerous and heartless, a touch of amusement will just briefly benefit us, however toward the day's end it turns out to be only a fix to defer the emergency. To break the cycle, it's a great opportunity to concentrate on work-life meaning (Wiese 2015). A couple may deviate; however, most experts with a universal profession are the place they are on account of sometime in the distant past: They gave it a second thought They ached for some significance in their occupation They envisioned a workplace of shared qualities and vision Many still do. Work-life adjust has turned into this mantra that we rehash as though it were the answer for lousy workplaces, hypochondriac supervisors, and a vocation that is not what we envisioned. Bring back importance and care in the work environment, and true will take after. We don't have to go to a workshop on work-life adjust to procure that. We require an authoritative culture that qualities people past compassionate mottos, and shows others how its done (Hobson 2013). My Sexuality free essay sample
In our lives there are many people and events that influence your beliefs or things that you do as time goes on. Our sex lives are sometimes hard for us to talk about. We struggle to tell our children the facts of life, and we struggle to tell our partners what pleases us. Sex is personal, and, at its best, is an intimate treasure savored privately. We each want to please and be pleased, to feel warm, safe, and desired. Our sexuality is also sometimes hard to talk about. Events that happen in our lives and the people we bring into our lives change us as a person making it harder for some people to talk about their sexuality then it may be for others. I for one have had many contributions in my life that has caused my sexuality to be the way it is. Family happens to be one of the biggest contributions when it comes to my sexuality. We will write a custom essay sample on My Sexuality or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Parents are different when it comes to sexual intercourse at a young age. Fathers are always more open with their sons about it and less open with it to their daughters. When it came to my father it was exactly that. It was against everything in him to have sex before marriage. His parents were brought up in the 1920ââ¬â¢s in Italy where it was against all morals to get pregnant or even have sex before marriage. My older sister got pregnant before she was done with high school and dropped out. When my grandpa on my fatherââ¬â¢s side had found out about her pregnancy he got extremely mad at my father because in his eyes it was my fatherââ¬â¢s fault she got pregnant before marriage. So I promised my father I wouldnââ¬â¢t shadow what she did and finish school. I felt like I could never come to my father for help when it came to guys because I felt that he would be disappointed in me for anything I did sexually. When it came to puberty, I couldnââ¬â¢t even ask him to be put on birth control because to him birth control gives girls a reason to have sex. ââ¬Å"They feel ââ¬Å"protectedâ⬠when they are on the pill it, it will give them a reason to keep having sex. â⬠, is what he always used to say. Though one thing he didnââ¬â¢t realize is that birth control not only helps you from getting pregnant, but it also helps with girls cramps during their menstrual cycle. Now, my mother was a bit different. She had told me that I donââ¬â¢t have to be scared to come to her, talk, and go to the doctorââ¬â¢s to be put on birth control if I thought I was going to get sexual in any of my relationships. Even if had to happen behind my fatherââ¬â¢s back. She made me feel more comfortable about any sexual encounters that I may have been involved in because I knew I could trust her about anything I had to talk to her about or anything I felt nervous about in my relationships. Religion is a big part of my life and also helped sculpt my sexuality. I had planned on being a virgin until marriage because in church I was taught that premarital sex is a sin. Though another concept that I learned in church is that Jesus died on the cross for our sins so they can be forgiven. Although, I had sex before marriage I do believe my religion does keep me from trying things like masturbation, kinky sex and pornography. Abortion is one thing that I am STRONGLY AGAINST. I believe that if you ââ¬Å"thinkâ⬠you are ready and responsible enough to have sex that you should ââ¬Å"thinkâ⬠you are ready and responsible enough for any of the consequences that come with your so called ââ¬Å"readinessâ⬠. I donââ¬â¢t like when friends or acquaintances talk about getting abortions when they think they are pregnant. School has been another big impact on my sexuality. Classes and teachers always really pushed about waiting to have sex. When students were caught having any kind of sexual relationship in school they were suspended and if numerous offenses happened they were sometimes expelled. So basically they put in your head that sex was wrong. In health class you are taught about STDââ¬â¢S and how you should wait to have sex when older and when you feel you are 100% ready to take care of any consequences that may come. Also they try to talk to you and tell you not to be ashamed of your sexuality whether you are straight, bi or homosexual. Peer-pressure is a HUGE thing in school. Drugs, sex, and partying are three of the main things that are peer-pressured in high school. My friends and other peers were having sex at younger ages. They tried to persuade me to start having sex with boyfriends and/or start/try masturbation because they thought it was fun and/or thought it felt good. It wasnââ¬â¢t because they were in love. Being raped at a young age caused me to be more cautious on who I talk to, trust, and hang out with. I have more of an attitude to certain people I donââ¬â¢t trust or like. I hold a lot of grudges when someone does something to lose my trust. It takes a lot of time to build the to forgive them and for them to earn their trust back then before. The rape has also caused me to push people away that I believe come too close. One last thing it caused me to lose was a lot of self respect and self worth. I donââ¬â¢t feel comfortable being naked with significant others or even being naked around myself. It made me feel disgusted of myself. I also became pregnant by the rape which made me feel even worse and not only that I have been raising my son since age 14. Though it did help me to be more aware and cautious of who I hang around and who I bring around my son. It also has shown me that a lot of men are still to immature to be in a serious relationship and caused me to lose a lot of relationships because of their immaturity. I am getting better as years goes on to get over the rape and move on with my life but again there is some things in your life that you can never forget. Since we grow up with so many different influences and events that happen in our lives, it could be difficult for some to realize where our beliefs come from. Though the events in my life caused me to be more cautious and grow up faster then others have some of them would have been better off undone. To recognize or at least be aware of what caused my beliefs, attitudes and values has helped me in a variety of ways whether it helped me be more careful of the things I do or the people I keep my loved ones and myself around or even made me a stronger person. Factors in my life had even caused me to be sure of my sexuality and made me who I am today as a more mature and stronger women then I would have been if some of my life events havenââ¬â¢t happened.

How Private Schools Are Using iPads
How Private Schools Are Using iPads Private schools are on the forefront of using technology to further education. NAIS, or the National Association of Independent Schools, has developed a set of principles about technology use in their member schools that emphasizes the importance of training teachers so they can implement the new technologies in their classrooms. As technology educator Steve Bergen of Summercore has noted in his thirty years experience implementing technology in private schools, the key to implementing technology well in schools is training teachers to use it well and use it across the curriculum. Here are some novel ways private schools across the country are using technology, including iPads. Using the iPad to Teach Across the Curriculum Many private schools have begun to use tablets, including iPads. For example, Cambridge Friends School, a co-ed Quaker pre-K through 8th grade school in Massachusetts, developed a program by which every sixth, seventh, and eighth grader will use an iPad to replace laptops. As reported in Business Wire, The iPads were provided in part thanks to a grant from Avid founder Bill Warner and his wife, Elissa. The iPads are used across the curriculum, in every subject matter. For example, students use them to watch time-release photos of an osmosis and diffusion lab. In addition, students were able to see a slide of the Maya temple of Chichà ©n Itz and then swipe across the slide to see what the temple looked like 1,000 years ago. Using the iPad to teach Math San Domenico School, a boys and girls pre-K through 8th grade day school and a 9-12 girls day and boarding school in Marin County, California, has a 1-to-1 iPad program for grades 6-12 and an iPad pilot program in grade 5. The schools technology department works to train teachers in all grades to use the technology to further educational goals. For example, math teachers at the school use iPad math text applications, and they also use the iPad for taking notes and managing homework and projects. In addition, teachers can use applications such as videos from Khan Academy to reinforce their skills. Khan Academy has over 3,000 videos on a range of academic areas, including math, physics, history, and finance. Students can use their videos to practice skills and keep track of how well they are doing towards reaching their goals. Another well-known math application is Rocket Math, available as an iPad application. Through this program, students can practice math skills through worksheets or through math missions on the iPad. At the nearby Drew School a co-ed 9-12 school in San Francisco, all students also have an iPad. Students are trained about how to use their iPads, and they are allowed to bring their iPads home. In addition, the school hosts training sessions for parents to learn how to use the iPad. At the school, math teachers digitally project math problems that students can work out on their iPads, and teachers and students use a program called SyncSpace Shared Whiteboard to work together on math problems. The images captured on the Whiteboard can be e-mailed or saved. Eventually, the school plans to replace all textbooks with iPads. The iPad as an Organizing Device Students can also use the iPad as an organizational tool. Some teachers at different schools have noted that the iPad can help middle school and other students who tend to lose or misplace homework handle and centralize their assignments. In addition, students who have iPads do not misplace their textbooks or notebooks. Students can also use the iPad to take and organize notes using tools such as the Note function or a program such as Evernote, which allows students to tag notes and place them in specific notebooks so they can be easily found. As long as students dont misplace their iPad, they have all their materials at their disposal.
